WriterCon, Ho!

That didn't come out right.

The point is, I'm going to WriterCon in July, much to my own surprise! The airfare/hotel combo rate finally descended to my price point, and I jumped on it before breakfast this morning. Which makes today already better than yesterday, by a lot. So, I'll be flying in on the red-eye early Friday morning, and I can't wait to press the flesh with my peeps. I will wait, though. Patiently. Until July. Alas, I won't be there early enough to fill up lilachigh's free days, and probably won't be there long enough to really see anything of Minneapolis or St. Paul. I admit I'd sorta like to see the Mary Tyler Moore statue. It would probably be the most fannish thing to do in that area, aside from attending the Con in the first place. I will be at San Diego Comic-Con the week before, so July is shaping up to be a total fan immersion bath. Ahhhhh.

This will be my first trip to the mid-West. If it is the mid-West. Is it?

In other news, my little Spike 'n' Dru in Disneyland story,
One Good Date, was nominated for a No Rest for the Wicked award, which is very exciting, and quite a bit encouraging. Effusive thanks to my nominator (and I think I know who you are, this time)! Too bad the little button is all Angel-fied, but I'll take it!

I haven't forgotten my drabble promises, and I'll try to get 'em up soon!

In the meantime, if you are in a Star Trek mood, check out my short crossover, The Dark Slayer and the Vulcan!

Congratulations on the nomination - and the trip to MN.

Thanks! It's lovely to get nominated. I look at the stories and writers that are nominated along with me, and I feel doubly honored to be there. I also feel like actually winning one of these things is highly unlikely in the face of such excellence, so the nomination is treasured all on its own.

Woo hoo! Road trip! Well, plane trip, but in this case it's the destination that's the journey. Or something.

Congrats on the nom and have a lovely time.

Thanks ever so! Writercon seems so very exciting, but it will be less than perfect because you will not be there, alas.

That's very kind of you to say, but I'm sure you'll all manage find without me. :)

Squee that we'll be meeting in July! Looking forward to Writercon so much but I'm at the "don't want to think about it too much in case something goes wrong" stage.

Yeah. I'm tempted to say "But, what could go wrong?" Then I remind myself that we live on a Hellmouth and it's the ultimate jinx! Just in time. Oh, wait. I don't live on a Hellmouth, at all. Just a couple of namby-pamby fault lines...

But, yes! We will finally meet! I'll be wearing a carrot in my lapel. Actually, I probably won't. I might not even have a lapel. Still, we will find one another. Probably by flocking to the "Spike Is Our Mistreated Muse" table.

Hurray, Writercon! And yes, the Twin Cities are definitely in the midwest. I've never been in the summer, but I'm told it can be sort of miserable - hot, humid, with mosquitoes the size of small helicopters. However, the combined metropolitan area is hands down my favorite big city - lots to do and very attractive.

Are you going? Woo hoo! Thanks for the mosquito tip. I'd heard of black fly issues up by the lakes, but I'm hoping that we'll be reclining in air-conditioned splendor. Yes, couches with built-in WiFi, boys with large fans, exotic cats with jeweled collars, and trays of peeled grapes will greet us in the hospitality suite. It's gonna be great!

Oops, sadly, no. Too much else going on this summer. But I went to school at a college not far from the Cities. Have fun without me - I'll expect a con report!
May. 15th, 2009 11:11 pm (UTC)
Okay. Fine. You're gonna miss all the reclining and fanning then. Your loss. I have a feeling there will be lots of con reportage from me.

*narrows eyes* Who you callin' a WriterCon ho?

YAYAYAY!!! I'm so glad that you're going! We will drink the frosty beverages and have the big fangirl fun!

I have to go buy some more exclamation points now.

Congrats on the nomination Apologies for the lack of punctuation. (See above.)

Re: \0/
Oh, it's gonna be awesome! Tomorrow we get to choose workshops! Hooray!!!! Did you want some of my exclamation points?! I've got loads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Help yourself...

Oh, neat! I'll be attending the con, too. I visited only_passenger in Minneapolis last July and the weather was absolutely lovely when I was there. I also loved the vibe of the city, which is often a hard sell to a NYer. We're spooled rotten :P Can't wait to meet you and Mere. Maybe Herself and I will be on the same plane...

Excellent! I'm totally up for a new city experience, but wonder how much we'll get out of the hotel. *shrugs* However, it'll be wonderful to meet up with you and other folks from round the 'verse, even if I don't make it to the MTM statue. I'm going to hit lots of my favorite cities in July: Portland, San Diego, San Francisco (of course), and now someplace new. It's just...neat!
