Rebcake and shapinglight do Stonehenge! Da da da DA da da. STONEHENGE!

Reb and Deb at Stonehenge for Autumn Equinox 2016

It was the autumnal equinox, so we went, as one does. If you can't tell, I'm having a lovely time on my first ever trip to the UK.

It is! Totally worth a visit. It's no longer a muddy field with chain link fencing around it, which is how everybody described it to me.

Lucky you! I've always wanted to visit Stonehenge. Also nice that you got to spend time with shapinglight!
Sep. 24th, 2016 06:12 pm (UTC)
I am lucky. It's not even raining, not that I'd mind it.

It is so nice to see two of my fav lj era! I hope you are having a great time.
Sep. 24th, 2016 06:13 pm (UTC)
It's tops! We've been seeing and doing so much, and having weirdly lovely weather during it all. I got a sunburn!
Sep. 24th, 2016 12:08 am (UTC)
Looks like you are both having a great time. Yay!
Sep. 24th, 2016 06:14 pm (UTC)
Appearances are not deceiving in this case!

I'm so glad you two are having a good time!
Sep. 24th, 2016 06:15 pm (UTC)
Thanks! It's been pretty fab!
Sep. 24th, 2016 04:23 am (UTC)

Stonehenge still looks the same.
Sep. 24th, 2016 06:18 pm (UTC)
It's actually been improved, I'm told. There's a great visitor center, and they shuttle you out to the site, where you can get very close. I think you end up about 20 feet from it at one point in the circuit. Breathtaking.
Sep. 24th, 2016 06:06 am (UTC)
fun! I've actually never made it to stonehenge.
Sep. 24th, 2016 06:25 pm (UTC)
I'd never made it to the UK at all, and I'm doing a ton of the usual highlights! A lot more than I expected, due to Shapinglight being such an excellent hostess! We even attended Evensong at St. Paul's in London this afternoon, complete with adorable choir boys and rumbling organ. *\o/*
Sep. 24th, 2016 02:54 pm (UTC)

Aww, I didn't even ask about this one. I hope the rest of the London days are as good though.

Sep. 24th, 2016 06:28 pm (UTC)
Everything has been great. Evensong at St. Paul's made up for missing out on organ recitals tomorrow, I think. I'm leaning toward The Libertine for Monday night, since it's so English-history themed. Do you have any opinion about the stalls at Haymarket?

How exciting! You both seem to be enjoying it! Can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip. :)

It's been pretty exciting! I hope I am better about reporting on this trip than I have been about the last few...
Sep. 24th, 2016 06:26 pm (UTC)
Lucky you! Both re. Stonehenge & meeting shapinglight. <3
Sep. 24th, 2016 06:32 pm (UTC)
Man, this UK lark has been amazing. Scotland, Wales, Bath, a corner of the Cotswolds, Stratford, and now London! Shapinglight and I have traveled before, but this is the absolute best!
Sep. 24th, 2016 07:40 pm (UTC)
It looks like it was a dramatic and foreboding day!

It was good to meet you!
Oct. 6th, 2016 05:59 pm (UTC)
It was likewise good to meet you, although too brief, even if we were locked in a room together for 2 days!

The Stonehenge day was actually very nice, with just enough clouds to add atmosphere and perspective.

Oh, my! Glad to see you're living the life.
So what does one do there on the equinox? ...sacrifice any nice people yet?
Oct. 6th, 2016 06:03 pm (UTC)
I could be facetious and say "step over the hippies" but it wasn't like that. The equinoxes don't have any especial light shows like the solstices do. It's just sort of...seasonal? Apparently there were some services of various sorts, but those all happened at sunrise and we were snug in our beds at that point. We were there for the actual equinox, which was mid-morning, but nobody really noticed.

It's just awfully cool. Magical, even.

I'm glad you two were having such a great time togehter!!

And I wish you a very happy birthday!

Thanks! I'm sorry not to have responded earlier, but I'm just getting back into the swing. Because, you know, I was making rather merry! *\o/*

Finally got back online. I didn't even try yesterday.

I enjoyed our trip so much. It was fun! Let's do it again soon, yes?

It's pretty great being a tourist in your own patch for a change, isn't it? Although I'm convinced it's even better for the actual tourist. I had a wonderful time, every moment.

Wonderful photo - so happy for you both that you had this joyous experience. I've always wanted to visit England and do a Jane Austen vacation tour.

Hope you had a totally awesome birthday -

There was a bit of Jane involved, I must admit. We drove very quickly by her house when she lived in Bath, but we also visited several sites that were locations of various Austen films. I didn't make it to the Lake Country this time, or Lyme, but managed several other places she mentions. I wouldn't mind going on a literary tour of the UK — Harry Potter, Beatrix Potter, Jane Austen, A.A. Milne, C.S. Lewis, Phillip Pullman, Robert Burns, just for starters — but I suspect it would mean looking into every nook and cranny in the country!
